video cover

Evil Eye is Source showcases a range of artists working with animation, film and video in Scotland from Anne-Marie Copestake / Fred Pedersen to the newly formed Vehicle and GFM. The video highlights the breadth and intensity of the Scottish music scene from the idiosyncratic Hassle Hound to the gigolo rhythms of Crème De Menthe (and others now associated with Glasgow's OSCarr record label). By commissioning films from artists paired with musicians Shadazz not only succeeded in encouraging discussion and collaboration but acts as testament to the calibre of the Scottish art and music scene. Shadazz could be envisaged as an attempt to redirect the way in which the music video functions, subverting the medium's popularity and accessibility - an opportunity for artistic expression and social commentary. On the other hand the original purpose of the music video, providing promotion for the artists and a visual identity to the music remains intact.
